Mobile Application Security Testing Services

Review security risk across Android and iOS applications, their platform behavior and the services they trust. Each engagement identifies the approved build, environment and client-side boundary while keeping backend API coverage separate.

  • Support safer Android and iOS release decisions
  • Separate client-side findings from backend API risk
  • Give mobile teams practical evidence for remediation planning

[Who this is for]

For teams preparing or evolving mobile products

The assessment is intended for product owners and engineers who need a defined review of an approved mobile build and its platform behavior. SignX supports remote security assessments for international clients, subject to technical feasibility and agreed engagement scope.

01

Launch preparation

Teams preparing a mobile launch with sensitive identity, data or transaction flows.

02

Sensitive applications

Fintech, marketplace, enterprise or customer-service products handling important user information.

03

Security requirements

Product owners responding to customer, partner or platform security requirements.

04

Major releases

Engineering teams assessing a material mobile release or an inherited application.

[Business value]

Mobile security context for product and engineering teams

A platform-specific assessment helps teams understand risk in an approved mobile build without presenting one platform's coverage as evidence for another.

01

Platform clarity

Keep Android and iOS findings tied to the exact build and operating environment that was assessed.

02

Ownership clarity

Separate mobile-client observations from backend services that require their own API scope.

03

Release decisions

Provide product and engineering owners with prioritized evidence for launch and remediation planning.

[Confirmed capabilities]

Mobile platforms

SignX's in-house security team supports Android and iOS application assessments. The exact build, device conditions, accounts, test data and environment are agreed for each engagement.

Android

Assessment of an approved Android application build within the agreed environment and test conditions.

iOS

Assessment of an approved iOS application build within the agreed environment and test conditions.

Mobile assessment activities

These activities are available capabilities. The specific build, device conditions, accounts, test data and environment remain engagement-specific.

  • Local data storage

Assessment of security controls around locally stored application data.

  • Authentication and sessions

Assessment of approved authentication and session behavior in the mobile application.

  • Platform interaction

Assessment of approved Android or iOS platform interactions.

  • Network communication

Assessment of the application's network communication security within scope.

Available activities are selected in the written scope and quotation

[Problems addressed]

Risk across the app, platform, device and network boundary

The final scope determines what is tested. These areas show the kinds of mobile risk a properly authorized engagement may examine.

01

Local data storage

Sensitive information in application files, logs, backups, caches or local databases.

02

Identity and sessions

Authentication, session lifecycle or device-binding behavior in approved workflows.

03

Network communication

Transport protection, certificate validation and data exchanged with supporting services.

04

Platform interaction

Permissions, deep links and inter-process communication exposed through the mobile platform.

[Assessment scope]

A named build, platform and backend boundary

Android and iOS are supported. The application version, build type, distribution method, accounts and device conditions are agreed per engagement. Source-code review, advanced reverse engineering, rooted or jailbroken device testing and tamper-resistance testing are not included. Backend API coverage requires a separate scope.

01

Platforms and builds

Approved Android or iOS versions, application builds, distribution channels and test environments.

02

Accounts and devices

Test roles, test data, approved device conditions and relevant platform configuration.

03

Client and API boundary

Mobile storage, platform behavior and communication separated from any supporting API assessment.

04

Explicit limitations

Source access, reverse engineering, modified devices, tamper resistance and excluded dependencies.

[Engagement process]

From build confirmation to mobile-specific reporting

A defined sequence keeps platform coverage, device conditions and backend boundaries visible throughout the engagement.

01

Confirm boundaries

Record platforms, builds, environments and backend scope.

02

Prepare access

Establish accounts, device conditions and test-data rules.

03

Assess

Examine storage, platform interaction, communication and approved controls.

04

Validate

Confirm findings and separate client-side risk from API risk.

05

Report and read out

Deliver prioritized findings and review remediation.

06

Agree retesting

Retesting arrangements, including scope, timing and any applicable fees, are agreed as part of the project quotation.

Standard assessment deliverables

Seven standard deliverables for each scoped assessment

Severity model: CVSS 4.0 + Business Context. CVSS v4.0 is applied to technical vulnerabilities when it is suitable and supported by the available evidence. Technical severity, affected assets and exploit conditions are recorded separately from business impact, asset criticality and remediation priority. When CVSS is unsuitable or the evidence is insufficient, the report uses a reasoned qualitative severity and clearly states its basis.

  • Executive summary for business and technical stakeholders
  • Documented assessment scope, exclusions, environments, dates and testing limitations
  • Validated technical findings with appropriately redacted supporting evidence
  • Severity ratings and business-risk prioritization using the approved CVSS 4.0 + Business Context model where applicable
  • Actionable remediation recommendations
  • Technical assessment report and client readout session
  • Retesting arrangements documented according to the project's agreed scope and quotation
[FAQ]

Questions before a mobile assessment

The answers keep platform, build and backend coverage explicit while avoiding unsupported certification or capability claims.

Which mobile platforms does SignX test?

SignX's in-house team supports Android and iOS application security testing. Each platform, build and environment must be named in scope; testing one shared codebase does not establish equivalent coverage.

Does mobile testing include the backend API?

Not by default. The API should be a named scope item with its own roles, endpoints and test controls.

Does the assessment include source review or advanced reverse engineering?

No. Source-code review, advanced reverse engineering, rooted or jailbroken device testing and tamper-resistance testing are not included in this service.

Does the report certify the app as compliant with a mobile standard?

No. The engagement is not a certification and does not guarantee that no vulnerability exists.
